Dog Breeding books

Complete Book of Dog Breeding

by: DVM, Dan Rice
This book was of great help, particularly when our pups began to dehydrate after birth. There were only 2 things it did not prepare us for, having smaller than normal litters and the mother's nervous behavior affecting her care of such a small litter. According to the emergency vet on holiday call, there are breed specific behaviors which play into the mother's care and can interfere. My only wish was that I could have found a book more specific to my breed. As a general instruction manual, it was of great help.

Canine Reproduction And Whelping: A Dog Breeder's Guide

by: Myra Savant-harris
This book covers so much more that hasn't been covered in other popular breeding books. Well worth the investment.

Successful Dog Breeding: The Complete Handbook of Canine Midwifery (Howell Reference Books)

by: Chris Walkowicz, Bonnie Wilcox
There are some great points and some lacking points made in the book. I appreciated the section where it lists the breeds of dogs and then corresponds the numbers that relate to the diseases and problems of that particular breed. It helps in determining whether the breed's problems are ones that you feel comfortable handling or trying to correct. The book needs more photos, drawings, or sketches as it assumes a higher degree of knowledge on the readers part. I would recommend the book but not as a sole source but only as an additional source as it is not complete and doesn't answer or address many other questions or problems.

Breeding Dogs for Dummies

by: Richard G. Beauchamp
This book is concise, quick to read, and easy to understand. Although some was common sense, there was much more that was important and unknown for the novice breeders. I would highly recommend this book for anyone entertaining thoughts of breeding any kind of animals for fun or profit.
